If you are having treatment in the North, your preop is done ahead of surgery, and you will be allowed to drive after this appointment. If you are being treated in the Republic of Ireland, your Laser Eye Surgery preop is done on the day of surgery, in which case you will be unable to drive.

Yes, please do not panic. Dilation can last longer in some people. We recommened that you drink plenty of fluids. Walking or light excercise will also help to metabolise it out of your system quicker.

Your journey with Optilase begins when you attend your initial assessment. One of our Laser Optometrists will meet with you and spend the next hour thoroughly examining and testing your eyes. You will find out if you are a suitable candidate for laser vision correction, what treatment will be best for your eyes, and how much exactly it will cost. You will not be able to drive after your assessment for at least 6-8 hours.

Your scans from your initial consultation are valid for up to 3 months.

We need to ensure that your prescription is stable in order to proceed with a surgery. Any history of previous exams will be compared to our results on the day of your consultation.

There are quite a number of questions will will ask you at the time of your booking. We do so in order to asses your suitabillity. The consultation takes appoximately 1 hour and we do not want to waste your time if you are likely not a suitable candidate.

We request that you do not wear your contact lenses for 5 days prior to your consultation.

We advise that you do not drive for 6-8 hours after your consultation. You can walk or take public transport.

Yes, we require an eye test within the last 2 years before your consultation. This is to check if your prescription is stable.

Meeting with your Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon allows him the proper time to review your assessment file and determine the specific treatment most suitable for your eyes. This is laid down in the guidelines from the Royal College of Ophthalmology in the UK, which Optilase voluntarily adheres to. It also allows you to ask any more detailed questions regarding your treatment and your surgeon will give final approval for your laser treatment.
